What is CDS Exam Entry?

Combined Defence Service (CDS) Entry is an exam conducted by UPSC, twice a year, for the recruitment of graduates as an officer in Indian Armed Forces. CDS is conducted in two parts namely, Part I : Written Exam and Part II : SSB Interview. CDS written exam has three different tests namely English, General knowledge and Mathematics.

What is Eligibility Criterion for CDS Exam?

Age Limit for CDS Exam-

Indian Military Academy (IMA) : 19-24 years

Air Force Academy (AFA) : 19-24 years

Indian Naval Academy (INA) : 19-22 years

Officers Training Academy (OTA)  : 19-25 years

Educational Qualification for CDS Exam-

IMA: The aspirants should possess graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institute.

OTA: The aspirants should possess graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institute.

INA: The aspirants must have a degree in engineering.

AFA: The aspirants should have passed 12th standard with Physics and Mathematics and having a degree from a recognized university or bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology.

 CDS Exam Syllabus:

CDS Written Exam is objective and each question has 4 options. Negative marking is -0.33 will be applicable for every incorrect answer.  English Paper is to test basic language skills of candidates. General Knowledge question papers comprises of questions based on Current Affairs, History, Geography, Scientific inventions and other such important topics. Mathematics section is to test your knowledge regarding main subjects taught up to class X.

The Interview-

The UPSC declares the list of candidates short-listed for the interview based on the written exam. The selected  candidates have to appear before Service Selection Board for the Interview process of 5 days(those who qualify Screening Test only). Candidates who qualify the minimum cut-off requirements for the SSB and written examinations will be placed in order on the basis of the marks received.

The final selections will be made on the basis of the vacancies available.
