National Defence Academy (NDA) is a National Level Test organized by Union Public service Commission (UPSE) to recruit candidates for Indian armed forces. The selection process of NDA 2022 involves the following stages:

·         Written Exam

·         SSB Interview

·         Written Examination

Candidates who will complete the application process completely will be able to attend the written exam.

The written examination is the first stage of the selection of candidates.

NDA 2022 is a 900 marks test further divided into two sections - Mathematics and General Ability Test.

The duration of the exam is 180 minutes comprising objective type questions.

NDA Selection Process 2022:

 

SSB Interview

Candidates who will secure the cutoff marks of the written exam will be invited for the SSB interview round.  Candidates in SSB Interview are assessed on Officers Potentiality. Candidates who apply for Air Force need to qualify Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS).

The SSB Interview round comprises two separate tests – Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test.

The qualifying candidates have to be put to the stage for tests on the first day of reporting at Selection Centres.

Only those candidates who qualify at stage 1 will be called for the remaining tests.

 

NDA 2022 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria to apply for NDA is given below.

 

Age Criteria:

 Applicant age must be within 16.5 – 19.5 years. For NDA-1, applicant must born after July 2, 2003 and before July 1, 2006. And for NDA-2 applicant must be born after January 2nd, 2004 and before January 1st, 2007.

Gender: Male & Female both candidates are eligible for NDA 2022 examination.

Qualification: Passed 10th & 12th level from a recognized board or university. Physics and Mathematics subjects are compulsory for students applying for Air force and naval wing.

 

Physical & Medical Standards

One cannot get selected in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force if the candidate is not physically and medically fit. In NDA Exam, the final allocation/selection for admission to the Army, Navy, Air Force of the National Defence Academy and 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme of Indian Naval Academy is subject to eligibility, medical fitness and merit-cum-preference of the candidates

 

Height & weight

The minimum height required for entry into the Armed Forces for male and female Candidates is 152 cm. Gorkhas and candidates belonging to Hills of the North-Eastern region of India, Garhwal and Kumaon will be accepted with a minimum height of 148 cm. An allowance for growth of 02 cm will be made for candidates below 18 yrs at the time of examination. The minimum height requirement for the Flying Branch is 163 cm. Flying Branch also requires other anthropometric standards like sitting height, leg length and thigh length.

 

Medical Tests

Female and  candidates will be examined by female medical officers and specialists and male candidates by male officers and specialists.

Final Selection

To be accepted for Army/ Navy/ Naval Academy and Air Force under NDA recruitment, candidates need to secure NDA cutoff marks separately in the written exam and SSB Interview.

For Air Force, candidates should separately qualify for the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS).

Final selection for respective academies will be done as per vacancies subjected to their NDA eligibility, medical fitness, and merit-cum-preference of candidates.

 

What after NDA Final Selection?

After passing the training, NDA training begins on the very first day of the academic year. The selected candidates for the three services viz, Army, Navy, and Air Force are given preliminary training both academic and physical for a period of 3 years at the National Defence Academy which is an Inter-Service Institution.

Air Force Cadets are given flying training for a period of 1½ years. However, at the end of one year of training, they are given provisional Commission in the rank of Flying Officer. After successful completion of further training of six months, they are granted permanent commissioned officers post.

During the training period, candidates will be initially paid a stipend of Rs. 56100/- per month (at pay matrix of level 10). After the training, the candidate will be commissioned as a Lieutenant with a pay scale of Rs. 56,100/- to Rs. 1,77, 500/- along with additional allowances.
